Hi my name is Lucja and thank you for visiting me and my world of art. As my name indicates I hail from a European and Australian multicultural background mix. Art is my passion and an important part of my everyday life. I believe everyone is creative and has a voice in order to express meaning about their existence and in order to live complete and enriched lives. For me the visual art medium is the powerful and individual way I can do this. My spiritual journey also adds an important dimension to defining and understanding who I am, why I am and what being human means. Spirituality coupled with my creative expression gives my life meaning and purpose. As you explore my work you will see variety and diversity as I believe I can access depths of myself in many multifaceted and complex ways.
My artistic journey began as a child but I was told there was no future in art and unfortunately I bought into this belief and put it on hold until I began painting in 1978 and graduated In 1982 from The Seaforth College of Fine Arts in Sydney. This was a turning point in my life even when I heard things such as it's only arty farty nonsence - I knew it was deeply important to me and developed into a profound love affair with art and creativity.
In order to keep artmaking as its own process I decided to also teach and share my love and passion for art and did so for anyone and anywhere I was invited and this has consequently taken me throughout Australia and into NZ as well as many painting tours of Italy and finally culminating in a Bachelor of Education BAVE degree from Griffith University, Brisbane in 2007.
Being a professional artist for nearly thirty years has been a mixed blessing for me from winning many awards and having my work in collections around Australia, USA, NZ and Europe yet often struggling with not only the creative process but the artistic wasteland that Australia often seems to portray. Saying this, I must state that art has enabled me to meet many extraordinary human travellers on their journey through life, confirming for me that there are many kindred spirits just like me out there and supporting my belief of how amazing being human can really be.
Since coming to Queensland in early 1993 art has opened doors for me such as being able to;
- Tour and tutor with Flying Arts Inc. in outback NSW and Qld for three years
- Holding the position of Chair with The Royal Qld Art Society - Gold Coast for nearly three years
- Being Visual Arts Coordinator and Exhibitor in Polish Australian Art Exhibition POLART 2000 at Qld Museum
- Producing a teaching DVD called 'An Adventure in Art the Road to Creativity'.
- Taking three (3) Art Tours to Italy
- Falling in love with India and it's spiritual depth
- Being employed with Qld Health in Mental Health and Rehab Services - Gold Coast
